Wise words of wisdom from recent PHS graduates
We asked graduated seniors what advice they would give the juniors/underclassmen about the college application process. This is what they had to say:
“Pay really good attention to the advice and resources about colleges that you get right now”
“Make sure to keep track of all the important dates and deadlines!”
“Don't be afraid to discuss anything you need help with, with your guidance counselors"
“Start planning as soon as possible. Don't rush anything and don't upset yourself, but know full well that priorities are priorities, and that change is good.”
“Start early! Seriously. Tour colleges early. You can always go and will be welcome. Find your college. You won't be able to figure out whether you want a large college or small college etc. etc. without visiting first! And you might think you love a school, and then visit and it’s not what you expected. Or vice versa."
“Apply early, don't do anything last minute”
“Do not worry if you do not know what you are planning on doing, look at a bunch of schools, figure out what you like about each school and hopefully looking through schools will help you figure out what you want to do and what interests you.”
“Start early, just because you are a sophomore doesn't mean you can't look into
schools. Getting a head start is the best way of going about the college process. If you are interested in sports especially, look into schools and contact coaches as soon as you can in order to let them know that you are interested in playing.”
“Make sure you keep in touch with your guidance counselor”
“Get started on the process of your essay, recommendations, etc. early. Keep track of all your activities so you do no forget to include anything. Start gaining experience volunteering in the area you hope to study.”
